| On September 30, HCA-Contra Costa set up a table at
the Women’s Health Summit, attended by 650 women, learning about
health issues of special interest to women. During the time between
seminars they were able to distribute 100 flyers and obtain 36 petition
signatures. Many other people promised to sign online after reviewing
the information. A number of people had heard about the legislation,
and also the veto and we were able to tell them that the work goes
on. They seemed very glad to hear that. A number told stories of their
difficulties affording health care, or getting insurance because of
pre-existing conditions, and offered comments about how badly this
reform is needed. One woman sadly spoke about her inability to secure
coverage since she was a diabetic. She had paid for employment based
coverage for years, but lost her job, and her current employer does
not provide insurance – and she can’t find anyone who
will sell her an individual policy.
Next spring, a big event is planned in Antioch. Sign up
to help make it a success!
